Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a confident and dynamic individual to join our delightful veterinary practice located in the historic market town of Shipston-on-Stour.  We are looking for a role model with a passion for customer service to lead our customer service team.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills to promote our high practice standards and maintain an organised, efficient and professional reception area. They should be able to demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure in a busy environment, prioritising workload, whilst maintaining a warm and friendly welcome to our clients and patients. In addition, the candidate will support the Practice Manager and take on some of the managerial responsibilities in order to deputise and maintain the smooth running of the practice in their absence. Confidentiality and discretion are therefore essential.

We are looking for:

  • Reception and administration experience, ideally in the veterinary sector

  • Previous management experience desirable but not essential

  • Animal lover

  • Demonstrate a positive approach to teamwork

  • Computer literate (Word, Excel etc)

  • Organised, reliable with good time keeping

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Your role will include:

  • Managing and supervising the reception team on a day-to-day basis including rota, holiday rota and sickness cover to ensure that reception is adequately staffed at all times

  • Overseeing and assisting with the training of the reception team to ensure they are working to the best of their abilities

  • Delegate tasks responsibly and appropriately ensuring that all members of the team are of standards of operations and their duties at all times.

  • Promoting the practice health plan and other seasonal clinical schemes

  • Ensure that the telephones are answered promptly and assisting with effective diary management

  • Maintaining client and patient files, maintaining GDPR compliances

  • Ensuring the reception area is well maintained, clean and fully stocked

  • Assisting with marketing of the practice, and the management of our social media and website accounts

  • Dealing with client queries and complaints as the first port of call and escalating those that need senior management involvement.

  • Working with the senior management team on business schemes and promotion

  • Assisting with payroll, banking and other managerial responsibilities.

The role is 40 hours per week. We are open to discussions regarding flexible working. Weekend shifts are currently 1 in 4 Saturdays (08.30 – 12.30).

Receptionist/Nurse Responsibilities:


- Patient reception and registration

- Running nurse clinics

- Taking blood samples

- Assisting the Veterinary Surgeon to perform - ECGs and Radiography

- Assisting the Veterinary Surgeon with surgery

- Removal of sutures

- Laboratory work
