In a veterinary emergency please call the surgery on:
Monday to Friday 8am until 5.30pm
From 1st January 2021 there will be some changes to the way in which we operate our out of hours services.
Due to the ever increasing workload and the long term sustainability of covering our out of hours provision, we have made the decision to share this with our friends at The Ark Veterinary Centre in Stratford Upon Avon.
We will be doing alternative night and weekend cover with them, from the start of January 2021.
To access the out of hours vet please phone our normal practice number as you would do, and then your call will be diverted to the emergency veterinary surgeon on call. Depending on who is providing cover at that time, you will then be asked to attend either Shipston or The Ark for the emergency treatment.
This will allow you and your pet to continue to receive a high standard of local on call service.
As the practices are closed, we remind you that you must phone the duty vet to confirm that your pet needs to be seen, so that they can go ahead to the practice and be ready for your arrival. As we are general practices rather than hospitals, staff are not on site all of the time. We always recommend that patients are brought to the practice operating that night to be assessed and treated, as we have access to all our emergency and medical facilities on site, rather than attending in the home, but of course each case will be discussed individually and the best course of action for the patient will be taken.
We thank you for your understanding and co-operation in this matter and your continued support throughout the year ~ of course we sincerely hope you will not need us too often!
When the Shipston practice is closed, your pet will therefore still be able to receive emergency care locally.
If your pet does need to be seen out of hours then we ask you to really make sure you know which practice you are needing to attend at that time. Shipston vets will operate out of the Shipston practice, and Ark vets will operate out of The Ark practice. This will be for week day nights when both practices close, and also over weekends or bank holidays. If you are unsure of where to go, please ask for directions, or see below for address details.
You will be guided by the practice you are seen at as to how things will then progress, including payment, insurance handling and so on.
If your pet is an inpatient at one of the practices, they will not be moved to the other site, so will continue to receive treatment at the practice they are first hospitalised in until they are well enough to be discharged home. This ensures there is not too much disruption to their treatment plan. Should you wish for transfer of your patient then please talk to the practices on a case by case basis.
Your patient records will be kept up to date at your primary practice, should your pet be seen at The Ark.
We hope to keep the process as smooth as possible, and continue to provide an excellent out of hours service to all our clients across both practices. Please note, there are additional charges for out of hours services. Patients who are not registered with either practice are encouraged to attend the emergency services provided by their own registered practice.
